Colloque TI 2016 (IT Symposium)<\/p>\r\n

As part of the Colloque TI 2016 (IT symposium), held last April in Shawinigan, the organizing committee presented five scholarships. The total amount awarded this year was $3,000. \u00a0The scholarships were awarded to students from Saint-Jacques school, Coll\u00e8ge Shawinigan, C\u00e9gep de Trois-Rivi\u00e8res and Universit\u00e9 du Qu\u00e9bec \u00e0 Trois-Rivi\u00e8res (UQTR).<\/p>\r\n
As a result of this initiative, two Shawinigan College students will receive a grant of $500. The first winner is Christopher Gigu\u00e8re, a third year IT & Management student. The winner is well known for the excellence of his academic achievements and his sense of commitment. Among other things, the former dropout helped secondary school students from S\u00e9minaire Ste-Marie with their robotics project.<\/p>\r\n
Also from Coll\u00e8ge Shawinigan, Karim Merri, a student in mobile applications programming, made a mark through his involvement with his peers and academic achievements. The Algerian-born student whose native tongue is not French, has demonstrated a strong resiliency.<\/p>\r\n
C\u00e9gep de Trois-Rivi\u00e8res student Laurence Paill\u00e9 also received a $500 scholarship. She is also a third year IT & Management student.<\/p>\r\n
Finally, Denis Beaudoin, a student attending Universit\u00e9 du Qu\u00e9bec \u00e0 Trois-Rivi\u00e8res (UQTR) was also awarded a $500 scholarship. Mr. Beaudoin obtained a diploma in computer science from Coll\u00e8ge Shawinigan. He then worked as a programmer, technician and coordinator before returning to school and completing a bachelor\u2019s degree in computer science.<\/p>\r\n
The amount of $1,000 was also awarded to the special education class of Saint-Jacques school, in Shawinigan. This amount will be applied to the purchase of IT equipment. As part of the symposium, the students raised $412 (an amount that is supplemented by their scholarship) with a silent auction based on a selection of works produced with outdated computer equipment.<\/p>\r\n
“These students are a valuable asset for our IT employers who need skilled workers to meet the growing demand,” says Colloque TI 2016 spokesperson Mario Lamontagne (also president of the Shawinigan Chamber of Commerce and Industry).<\/p>\r\n
It should be noted that ICO Technologies and Cognibox, which are both seeking skilled workers, have each contributed the amount $1,500.<<\/p>\r\n
